Go On a Scenic Hike Near Redmond at Red Mountain

Fall in the Pacific Northwest is a great time to enjoy all the beautiful scenery the area has to offer. The Snoqualmie Pass area has tons of hikes at all levels of difficulty and many are set just off Interstate 90, making it easy for people living in our Redmond apartments to access and enjoy. Red Mountain is one of the most popular hiking spots near Redmond, with the trailhead less than five minutes from I-90 and Snoqualmie Pass.

Scenic Start

The hike at Red Mountain starts off easy, with an up-and-down trail that quickly gives way to scree fields and sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. Soon enough, Red Mountain itself will become visible - a reddish-brown mountain distinct from the other gray granite cliffs surrounding it. A few miles in, the trail splits. Follow it down into the Commonwealth Basin, where the path winds down to open meadows and streams. At this point, it's a good idea to stop for a picnic and enjoy a Banh Mi sandwich before you embark on the more challenging part of the trail.

The Ascent

After the stream, the trail becomes steeper. This trek takes you all the way up the mountain. There's a vista after every two or three turns where you can catch your breath and marvel at your elevation. As you continue up, you can see Snoqualmie Pass, I-90, and the trail you came in on growing farther away, while the peaks and ridges around you become level with your elevation.

The Summit

After a steep hike to the top, you're rewarded with an open spot to stop, rest, and take in the best view yet. There are rocky clearings, places to sit and eat, and even a lake a short distance away. There are also spots to camp not far beyond this point, and the trail continues on to the even longer Kendall Katwalk.

Take a break and observe the progress you made. When you go back, you get to retrace your steps and watch the surrounding ridges with a new perspective, knowing you climbed to their level.

This scenic hike near Redmond is just one of the amazing attractions near our Redmond apartments. If you're interested in learning more about our vibrant community at Parkside, contact us today, and be sure to keep an eye on our blog for more activities in the area.
