Biking

For an unforgettable adventure, pedal along the North Cascades Highway. It allows cyclists a chance to traverse one of the most remote mountain ranges in the lower 48 states. A 7,000-foot elevation change challenges all fitness levels, and the Diablo Lake Overlook is a popular rest stop. 

Boating and Fishing 

Don't miss boating and fishing fun on lakes such as Gorge and Ross. The Ross Lake Resort offers rentals, as well as a water taxi service. 

Depending on the lake, anglers can cast a line for cod, landlocked salmon, and trout. The Skagit River is another fishing destination within the park. It's one of the state's major watersheds and features seven species of anadromous fish. 

Day Hiking 

Whether hikers want to take a peaceful stroll or climb to new heights, there's a trail for everyone. Those not to be missed include:

Thornton Lake Trail 

The first two miles of Thornton Lake follow the gentle grade of an old road. It meanders through a hemlock forest before exploring a meadow full of heather and huckleberry. Hikers enjoy views of Triumph Peak and may spot deer, hawks, and eagles. 

Panther Creek

Best for a short adventure, Panther Creek features stunning water views. The trail passes through several avalanche chutes, and colorful wildflowers dot the landscape. 

Thunder Creek Trail

Wandering through an ancient forest, Thunder Creek offers a journey not soon forgotten. The path is surrounded by old cedar and fir trees and is home to owls, woodpeckers, and other bird species. Hikers cross a wooden bridge, and can also look for animal tracks in the sandy soil.
