What began with a group of teenagers collecting objects and specimens soon grew to become the Hall of Young Naturalists. Today, it is known as the Burke Museum, and its storied history spans 130 years. Nestled in nearby Seattle, the museum features exciting exhibits of 16 million objects highlighting the flora, fauna, and natural resources of Washington state. Baird's Beaked Whale

The 39-foot-long Baird's beaked whale washed ashore in Washington in 2015. The skeleton is only one of ten on view in the United States, and it took two years to prepare the specimen for display. These whales are rarely seen or studied, making it a unique and exciting addition to the museum's collection.
