A unique destination, Chihuly Garden and Glass highlights the incredible work of artist Dale Chihuly in a botanical setting. Born in 1941, Dale was introduced to glass while studying interior design at the University of Washington. Today, his amazing creations are showcased in over 200 museum collections worldwide. Here is some of what Chihuly Garden and Glass has to offer just a short drive from our Redmond apartments.
Start your visit at the theater to learn more about Dale Chihuly. The short videos cover his working process and feature interviews and footage of Dale working onsite, creating exhibitions and installations. The theater is also a gathering place for lectures and community events in a state-of-the-art audio-visual setting.
Run out of a 1967 Airstream, the community hot shop teaches you all about glassblowing. A skilled team of artists offers live demonstrations while they gather glass from a 2,175-degree furnace to create incredible works of art. The demos are offered at select times throughout the day.
Step outside to explore the lush garden. It boasts an ever-changing landscape and offers something new to see every season. The plants were specifically chosen to complement Chihuly's work, and when in full bloom, the garden is "bursting with color and light."
Be sure and end your visit at the bookstore. It sells a range of books and other materials relating to Chihuly's projects and artworks.
