Not far from our Redmond, Washington apartments is a destination that saves wildlife and inspires people to make conservation a priority in their lives.
It's called the Woodland Park Zoo, and visitors can see animals from around the world.
Take a stroll through Molbak's Butterfly Garden. It's home to over 500 free-flying butterflies that are native to North America. One of the highlights includes the American Lady. These creatures feature two large eyespots and white spots on their forewings. In the wild, they range across the United States except in the northwest.
Journey from the forest floor to the canopy. This exhibit mimics the forests of Africa and South America and features animals such as the majestic jaguars. They're identified by their yellowish tan fur featuring black rosettes. Those that live in rainforests are typically darker than those that live in open areas.
Explore the African Savanna without having to leave Washington. The grasslands of East Africa are home to a wide array of animals. This exhibit showcases several species that live on these shrinking grasslands. Visitor favorites include the giraffes, zebras, and African lions.
Don't forget to explore the authentic reproduction of a rural East African village. It's found at the edge of the exhibit and honors the people whose lives are tied to the habitat and the animals around them.
Visitors can also enjoy Flights! Camera! Action! This fun experience tells how the zoo works to save animals. It features native mammals as well as raptors that demonstrate their natural skills.
